Snowthrower - Shear Pin

"On a snow thrower, the shear pin connects the auger to the auger shaft. It has specially desgined grooves that are engineeried to snap if there's too much torque, such as when you hit a rock or pothole. The purpose of this feature is to prevent damage to the gear case and auger shaft. Replacing a shear pin is an easy, inexpensive repair. Repairing or replacing more costly parts such as the gear case or auger shaft are not. Without the shear pin, even the smallest imperfection in the road surface or an obstacle such as a snow-covered newspaper could take your snow thrower out of service, costing you hundreds of dollars in lost productivity, not to mention the repair costs. At LawnEQ, we have replacement shear pins for every type of snow thrower on the market today. Keep at least one or two as backup so you can replace broken shear pins quickly and get your snow throwers back in service immediately."
